IRS warns of dangerous new email impersonation scam

Updated: Sep 9, 2019

The IRS posted an article on their website warning taxpayers of new IRS impersonation email scam. The emails look like they were sent by IRS.gov and include details pretending to be about the taxpayer's refund, electronic return or tax account. But in fact, when the taxpayer tries to access the information, they allow a malicious file to secretly download keylogging software that tracks every keystroke with the goal of gaining passwords to sensitive accounts such as banking.
